You can speak to a member of The Hood Project, helpline team at any time. The Helpline adviser will offer confidential, non-judgmental information and expert support. The team will provide a listening ear if you want to talk about your experiences and support you to work through your options in the short and long term.
About the Hood Project
Our support services at The Hood Project and CALM Group, help Male victims who have experienced Domestic Abuse.
Three years ago we set up the this project to support separated parents in family court proceedings together with community based support work.
After working supporting father's, we started to realise the high amounts of referrals from male victims of domestic abuse. It was concerning to see the invisibility of support offered by professionals, especially when a victim of Domestic abuse was a male.
We understand that domestic abuse has no gender or colour, but sadly gender and race does manifest it self in family court.
The challenges Parents have faced in family proceedings can been difficult, especially those who may not have the means to financially access legal representation.
It is important that male abuse is not ignored, that it is heard and supported by all professionals. Sometimes these services helping victims are failing to support Men.
We have been working round the clock self funding and voluntarily providing first response support and help to those victims of abuse.
In 2018 Paul Lavelle lost his life while In a abusive relationship. Not many of you would have heard about Paul, for those who have, have shared what a truly amazing person and father he was. Paul is one of many men who have suffered Domestic abuse. As a result of the sad loss of Paul, we are seeing more male support networks in helping victims of domestic abuse such as the Paul Lavelle foundation.
We will continue to raise awareness of the impact of domestic abuse on men and the services we offer at the Hood Project and Calm Group will do our upmost to raising funds to continue to help support you.
